Kayak the Marlborough Sounds

Marlborough Sounds offers a network of waterways and with it's stunning scenery, marine and bird life what better way way could there to be explore and enjoy it but by kayak. Keep an eye out for seals, dolphins and penguins - to name just a few.

There are options for both independent kayak rental and guides trips.

Edwin Fox Museum

Visit the Edwin Fox maritime museum on Picton's foreshore to discover the fascinating history of the world's 9th oldest preserved ship.

Picton Golf Club

Picton Golf Club is a 9 hole course Par 72 for women and par 70 for men. The Golf Course is located 5 minutes south of Picton. Club, trundler and cart hire available.

Picton Heritage and Whaling Museum

The Picton Museum boasts a collection of over 2,000 items incorporating Māori , whaling, maritime and historical displays. The museum is located on the foreshore and operates 7 days a week.

Explore the Marlborough Sounds 

Picton is well known for its vast series of islands, peninsulas and seas covering 4,000km² of islands. Sight-see the Marlborough Sounds with BeachComber Cruizes or Eko Tours.

Hiking in Forest

Hike Queen Charlotte Track

The Queen Charlotte Track is 70km’s in length, and it stretches between Ship Cove and Anakiwa. You will see some of the most picturesque sights available in New Zealand.

Feel free to register at the DOC (Department of Conservation) camp sites, or else you can book to stay at the various accommodation providers along the route.

Should you prefer to glide your way around the Queen Charlotte Sound in a kayak, then the Marlborough Sounds Adventure Company must be your next port of call.

They have several guided tours, are well worth it, and you will find yourself wishing that you could stay longer!

Hiking Boots

Queen Charlotte Track

The Queen Charlotte track enjoys stunning views of the Marlborough Sounds with coastal view and native New Zealand bush. There are a number of options available for traveling the track - on foot or by biKe. If walking you can even have your pack transported for you. Spend a day or several.

The Snout walk 

If you don't have the time to walk the Queen Charlotte track but are seeking equally stunning scenery the Snout Walk is a good option. The track is considered an easy grade, is 12km in length and will take approximately 2 hours.

Omaka Aviation
Heritage Centre

The Omaka Aviation Centre houses Sir Peter Jackson's collection of WW1 aircraft and artifacts. Calling upon Sir Peter's expertise, the exhibit settings and themes are extremely lifelike and breathtaking. You feel as if you had actually been transplanted back in time.

Pelorus Bridge Scenic Reserve

The Pelorus Bridge Scenic Reserve contains one of the last stands of original river flat forest in the Marlborough Area. Another claim to fame is that is was a location used in filming The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug.
